Toy Review: Play Arts Kai Cyborg Ninja (Metal Gear)

Play Arts Kai's second Metal Gear offering that is in line with the 25th anniversary. The Cyborg Ninja was actual dawned by two characters, Gray Fox and Olga. But originally made for Fox. Konami and Square Enix is really hitting the right spots on Cyborg Ninja, or is it? I'll skip the box art since it shares the same design as Solid Snake.

At first glance, Gray Fox's Cyborg Ninja is near perfection. He employs a metallic glittery finish which is very rare for most Play Arts Kai figures, well there's the Halo Reach team. The mixture of yellow-ish gold and navy blue is spot on. Even warning signs and other decals on Cyborg Ninja is akin to the game character. In fact, these details are so precise, you can even read the fine print without squinting an eye.

Just like Solid Snake, the crevasses are airbrushed to perfection and very defined giving that slight war-torn look but remains shinny and glittery nonetheless. You are unable to straighten the arms out so it is forever in a slight angle. The crotch plate is made from a soft PVC and slightly jointed to that the leg movement won't hinder the poseabilities.

If there is one thing I would complain is that he lacks a waist joint. A ninja is a dynamic moving figure able to flex in any situation. Without a waist joint, I feel that the name is all for naught. That's it.  One may note that he also doesn't have a neck joint unlike other Metal Gear figures on this line. It doesn't bother me that much since the head has a better joint. Moving forward.

Cyborg Ninja has two weapons a katana and a rail gun. The rail gun completely replaces the lower arm and it fastens strongly. I was just lead to minimal positions with the rail-gun on. we are given an extra hand for holding the sword, and I wish there is an extra for his left for little bit of diversity, a sword on the left and a big ass gun on the right.

Not only the arms are on an angle but the legs as well. We have a sturdy upper body but the legs are not proportionate so I was in a bind stretching it out to it maximum potential. It takes a while in getting used to those limbs and he only carries a few positions. So I suggest to use a stand (again).

Cyborg Ninja in a nut shell is a very stunning action figure highlighted by a well done metallic, glittery paint finish. The details are superb with small but legible decals all over. Two dislikes - 1. Doesn't have a waist joint 2. No neck joint either. Cyborg NInja is a perfect display figure but with the absence of the above mentioned joints, it is really hard to do ninja-like poses such a crouching the alike.
