What makes an S.H Figuarts figure exclusive? This is a question I keep on asking myself and investigating throughout the years. At first I figured that movie riders are automatically exclusives, popular characters have a greater chance to be exclusives or if they are clamored for, could be regular releases. Huge and bulky items are also highly anticipated as exclusives. But how about reoccurring characters? What is the criteria to include them as exclusives? An example is this S.H. Figuarts Kamen Rider Gai from Ryuki.
At a glance, the monotone box art sort of reminds you on how old S.H. Figuarts boxes used to look like - a mix grey-ish and off white design. Absolutely no other colors included except the company logos and photos at the back.
The same description can be said on the actual figure. Its metallic paint applications are not surprising in S.H. Figuarts, the only part that is painted differently is the horn on his left shoulder.
As an exclusive, it is slightly a dismay that he doesn't have a lot of accessories (even lesser hand count) than of previous S.H. Figuarts Ryuki riders. He only has 8 interchangeable hands, 5 advent cards and the Metal Horn. The Metal Horn is annoying to work on and I couldn't make the position right. Instructions really doesn't help a lot.
Ok, not all is bad about Gai. In fact, he has a very shinny silver finish that highlights his metallic features even more. Nevertheless, it is hard to convince if he is worth it as an exclusive.
